Pediatric Eye Exams
Dr. Sonneberg’s calm and soft-spoken demeanor and her gentle touch makes her an excellent doctor to examine your child’s eyes. Dr. Sonneberg is also a mother of three children and, therefore, understands how to engage and reassure your child during the exam process.
As a parent, you may wonder whether your child has a vision problem or when you should schedule your child’s first eye exam. Children’s eye exams are extremely important, because 5 to 10 percent of preschoolers and 25 percent of school-aged children have vision problems. Early diagnosis of a child’s vision problem can be crucial to their developmental growth and their overall success in school. During a pediatric eye exam, Dr. Sonneberg will assess a child’s vision and also will evaluate whether the child’s eyes are working together as a team and whether their eye muscles are functioning properly. In addition to optimal vision, a child’s eye health is critical to that child’s ability to learn to read and process what they are learning.
